House Mouse

Mus domesticus

Nottinghamshire Mammals

Description

Grey fur, slightly paler underneath. Ears and eyes are smaller than on Wood Mouse and the muzzle is pointed. Tail is almost as long as its head and body and appears scaly. Head and body length 70-93mm

Extremely under recorded in Nottinghamshire considering how many must be trapped each year. Recorded in 10 out of 35 hectads (6 since 2010). Often the first indication that they may be present in a house, out building or roof void are their conspicuous dropping. Mouse droppings are hard when dry unlike bat droppings which crumble.
